A Magazine; Military in Scale, April 1996

I keep on finding this weird vehicle called Alvis Stalwart. It's everywhere, you can't miss it once you know what to look for. Till this year I have not had much fondness for the six-wheeled wonder but I'm changing my heart. Can we now have a main stream model kit of it, please? Trumpeter isn't afraid of weird things but I guess they would probably mess it up. AFV Club did the Scimitar so they're used to odd British vehicles... Never mind, I have enough to do at my build table anyway. The Military in Scale April issue of 1996 shows how to assemble and paint a Dartmoor Models kit in 1/35. John Davis was the man who tackled the full resin and white metal kit. Watch and learn!

A Magazine; Airfix Magazine March 1974

Now this is funny, I was leafing through a bunch of old magazines in a book shop and found this issue of the Airfix Magazine. There seems to be an Alvis wherever I look these days. The comment on the cover photo is "Three Alvis Stalwart get their feet wet during an exercise recently. Modelling details for a Stalwart in 1:76 scale appeared in our November 1973 issue." So let's find that issue, shall we?

Well I'm back from the mountains and still hoping for this summer to take off in a grand way. So far I had better weather in Swedish Lapland than now. Rain, cold, wind. Pure crap in other words. But, I manage to have a bit of a swim every day, just like this Norwegian Alvis Stalwart! You have not missed the Stalwart walk around, have you?

Newspaper Story; Civilian Amphibians

Those of you who read the Helsinki report Pt 2 might recall a Finnish newspaper featuring an article on amphibious cars. Well folks, here it is again, recycled a couple of weeks later but in one of Sweden's national papers. Just a bit different regarding illustrations but otherwise unaltered. Funnily there is no mention of the identity of the driver of the black Gibbs. Richard Branson, who? Somehow it seems fashionable to be a amph head these days and we're happy to be in the front line.

Walk Around: Alvis Stalwart

In the Swedish armed forces the Alvis Stalwart was called Amfibiebil 101 and was in use 1962-1985. 34 units were used by the coastal defence units for transport duty in the archipelago. This example is photographed at the Arsenalen museum collection in Strängnäs, Sweden. What's in the Box? Schwimmwagen Tamiya, 1/48

Like all Tamiya's models in 1/48 the box top vehicle is portrayed in a realistic setting.

You get 35 pieces of sand coloured plastic, no figures. I think the wheels might have too round a shoulder, check your references on this. This is almost as detailed as the bigger sibling in 1/35 from Tamiya. You get a separate hood for the rear mounted engine but there is nothing to show if you keep it open. How about nicking this part from Bandai's model in same scale?

Clear glass and decals in a separate bag.

Still have this to build, might even do it in three colour camou for the sake of the challenge in this scale.

What's in the Box? Schwimmwagen Tamiya New, 1/35

The box art is a piece of perfection and very Tamiyan.

You get 59 pieces of sand brown plastic, some of them doubled as seats, lights, wheels etc. The driver is in 7 parts. This kit does not include a raised top but there is no need to hide all those beautiful parts in the tub. The kit is including an engine for you to show if you want.

A well detailed tub, a large piece of mesh and separate wind shield in a plastic bag.

The markings are clear and in register, just as expected from a new kit from Tamiya. Decals for three individual vehicles.
