Welcome to The Amphibious Warfare blog, the place for you who can't decide whether you prefer mud to salty seas or vice versa. Here you'll find books, films, model kits and a few other things that are related to the world of amphibious warfare, many times from a modellers point of view. A book; Andrew Jackson Higgins and the boats that won World War II

Andrew Jackson Higgins, Jerry E Strahan, Louisiana State University Press 1998

You who have wondered about the inventor of the Higgins boat have here a good chance of finding out all the facts. A large part of this book deals with the private war Andrew Jackson Higgins fought against a whole bunch of antagonists. Higgins was the man that got things made, seldom in the way the bureaucrats wanted it but rather in a way that worked for the soldier fighting in the war. Find out  how the LCM's and LCVP's and PT's came into being and how they gave the Allied forces the final victory over Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan.

Highly recommended.
